Teri-Q

Monday, June 11th, 2007

If you work in the Portage complex in Gatineau, there is a little spot in Phase III called Teri-Q that serves up the best breakfast bagel around:

Made with cheese and homemade mayo, this thing is one tasty little sucker. I like how it’s made with the bacon extended on one end.. they look like little bacon legs ;-) $2.85

Lieutenant’s Pump

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Since the Senators won last night, I thought it would be appropriate to find breakfast somewhere along Elgin a.k.a. the Sens Mile.

Sens Mile

I kept my eyes open for a place I hadn’t tried yet (not easy!) and saw the Lieutenant’s Pump at 361 Elgin was overflowing with people:

Since it was just me, I thought they could possibly squeak me in somewhere and I was right, however it would have to be inside at one of the bars. Once again, I had my fingers crossed that I would have enough light for my pics. I ordered a regular breakfast with bacon and sausage and relaxed reading up on the game and sipping a coffee. I chatted a bit with the bar maid about how nuts it must have been around there last night and after a bit, breakfast was served:

Mmmm yummy. You can’t see it there, but hidden behind the bacon, sausage and home fries is a nice portion of fresh fruit too. $8.99.

Carmello’s On Cooper

Carmello\'s On CooperI had been eying Carmello’s On Cooper (one block east of Elgin) for a while and decided to take some friends there a couple of Sundays ago on the last day of Ottawa’s Tulip Festival.

We couldn’t get a window seat but managed to get a nice booth. I crossed my fingers that it wouldn’t be too dark for my pictures and ordered the Eggs Benedict along with Italian sausage ($9.95):

Steve had the Carmello’s Benedict– the difference here being it was with prosciutto and a smoked provolone cheese sauce ($9.45) instead of back bacon and hollandaise:

I think I regret not making the same choice… but it was still very yummy indeed.

And here’s a picture from the last day of the Tulip Fest:

The Cottage and a Kitchen

The Cottage and a KitchenI’ve been meaning to try this place for a while now.. the first time I went by they were on holidays and the next time was a Saturday. They aren’t open for breakfast on Saturdays but a couple of weekends ago I managed to get my lazy butt in there for a nice Sunday brunch. They are over at 163 Parkdale not too far away from the Parkway.

I was lucky to find a window seat and ordered myself a Cottage Benedict with a side of toast for mopping up. Once served, I took out my trusty camera and snapped up some pics:

$8.95, coffee extra if I remember right… yum yum.

Baker Street Café

Baker Street CaféThe Breakfast Gods were shining down on me a couple of weekends ago when I tried this little spot on Richmond road near Mountain Equipment Co-op. As soon as we walked in we saw a nice table next to the window and sat down. The menu has the regular breakfast goodies you find at most places but there was one particular item that caught my eye. Something I’ve learned in the past couple of years is that you can “Frenchify” lots of different kinds of bread, as seen in an earlier post where I made a French Toast Danish.

I ordered the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast with bacon and was rather impressed with the presentation. I indulged in taking lots of pictures before digging in.

The New Bramasole Diner — This Time For Real!

The New Bramasole Diner

I got a random call early Sunday morning from an old friend from out of town asking me if I was interested in going go out for breakfast.. well, duh! Picture me in bed all groggy until he pops the question. My eyebrows rose and I knew exactly where I wanted to go. After a few more phone calls to arrange a third person for this breakfast adventure I was out of bed and in the car headed over to Ottawa.

I’ve been to the original Bramasole Diner on Bank Street on a previous breakfast adventure only to have my camera’s batteries die out on me before I got my breakfast. I was pretty upset about that but this time I made sure I was good to go..

I *had* to have the Bram-Slam again.. and I happened to have the huge hunger for it: 1 Pancake, 1 French Toast, 2 Eggs, 2 Bacon, 2 Sausage, Homefries, Toast and Juice. Oh my. Let’s take a journey around my breakfast:

The Diner

The Diner Sometimes the life of a breakfast blogger isn’t an easy one. I trucked my butt up to where the new Bramasole Diner is on Saturday only to find out it wasn’t open yet. I tried Rockin Johnny’s Diner and was all ready to order only to find out I was too late for breakfast. :( I left, with my head bowed in shame.

I was ready to give up when The Diner on Wellington corner Western in Westboro caught my eye. It’s a family friendly (I counted at least 8 babies while I was there) modern diner with a great staff. I got myself the Eggs Benedict:

The Diner

mmmMMmm t’was yummy. Turns out this joint is owned by the same kids as the Elgin Street Diner, another place of great interest to this breakfast blogger. $15.93 with coffee and a side of toast.. it also came with a super friendly server ;)

The New Bramasole Diner

I took a little drive to Ottawa today and went by a spot that I’ve had my eye on. I can’t wait, they’re opening up a second diner:

The question is, WHEN??

**UPDATE** It is open now– I’ll have to check it out one of these days! ^_^

Wings N Philly’s Diner

Monday, February 5th, 2007

A couple of Saturdays ago I headed out looking for a breakfast place specifically on the east side of a north-south street in order to have the sun shining through the window to get some nice pics. Wings N Philly’s (239 Bank Street corner Lisgar) fit the bill perfectly.

Wings N Philly\'s Diner

Seeing “All Day Breakfast” in a window always brings a smile to my face :)

I went in, Journal de Montreal in hand and grabbed a table next to the window. There isn’t a breakfast menu, so your choices are how you want your eggs, what kind of toast, and what kind of meat.

Wings N Philly\'s Diner

I happened to be craving both sausage and bacon this particular morning.

Wings N Philly\'s Diner

Yummy. On days where I eat like this, I have a light dinner and no lunch. My meal cost me around 5 bucks.
