Awesome Boiled Egg Timer

Egg Timer

I found this in the last seasonal Lee Valley mini-catalog that gets sent to my door. It may not be as cool as an egg that times itself, but it’s still pretty neat.

From the Lee Valley site:

Boiling eggs to the perfect level of hardness is much easier with this simple timer. It is made of a special heat-sensitive plastic that changes color as its temperature increases. The timer is calibrated to indicate soft, medium, hard and in-between stages. Best of all, you can put your eggs and timer in tap water (hot if you are in a hurry) and then bring the water to a boil. No more cracked eggs and no more complaining.

Get one here. I just love good kitchen gadgets ;)

I really dig the Lee Valley catalog and stores very much. My friend Myst told me once that the gardening section of their catalog is like porn for gardeners.

Ooh! I’ve had one of those for a few years now, and I *love* it. It’s makes cooking eggs foolproof (and I should know, since I’m a bit of a fool when it comes to cooking!).

Btw…I finally checked out Mike’s in Gatineau because of a review on this blog, and I was definitey impressed. Thanks. :)

    I have that one.
    It doesn’t work very well.

[…] Whenever I make soft-boiled eggs, I always use my ‘egg timer’, which I never really trust. It’s a fiberglass dome, shaped like half-an-egg, and you are supposed put it into the water when it is still cold and then start cooking your eggs. When the red color fades to the desired level of doneness, you take the eggs out. I don’t normally use these types of gadgets, but this one was a gift, so I use it, with a certain amount of distrust.
